Time at Confluence
I moved from APP Corporation in Australia to Confluence in September 2006. APP in Australia was like a family and I have experienced a similar ethic with Confluence.
The enjoyment on my project comes from the challenge of working with different cultures. My project building site is an interesting array of contractor and consultant staff of different nationalities.
Typical Day at Work
At present, it's a 10-11 hour day on my building site, with occasional visits to the Client and Authorities. The project runs 24 hours and occasionally I will visit the site at night to check on the contractor and the work in progress.
My current focus is on QA and the construction programme. Because there is a broad range of nationalities working on the site, I am particularly focused on ensuring the contractor manages the health and safety of all workers. The workers are a long way from their home countries and I want them to feel that their health and safety is important.
Life Outside Confluence
My partner lives in a famous wine growing region in southern Australia. Being a country girl all her life, it's ultimately me who does the flying home.
I've been a keen rock-climber for many years, although there aren't many opportunities for that in the UAE. I'm searching, though. In the cooler months, I explore the mountains straddling the UAE and Oman. I'm also a passionate traveller, and have spent short holidays visiting Istanbul and Jordan, with Athens, Damascus and hopefully Yemen next on the list of ‘must see' places.
