Off to a rolling start- Confluence supports Singapore's Formula 1 Grand Prix Consortium

Thursday, 30 October 2008

Confluence's involvement over the two major events includes project management services to ensure contractor delivery of the track, civil, power and communications infrastructure, project planning, cost and risk management, event management and supervision and race official and media liaison.

The Singapore Grand Prix is one of only three, 100% street races in the Grand Prix series.  Held over three days, the mobilisation and demobilisation of temporary infrastructure including barriers, fences, grandstands and hospitality suites requires months of planning, to ensure a smooth delivery of the event with minimal inconvenience to the city.

Deemed a huge success, the 2008 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix was held in September and was the first night race in Formula 1 history.  Set along Singapore's Marina Bay, the street circuit is just minutes from hotels, public transport and a bustling food and entertainment scene.

The proposed FIA approved, 5.067km-long street circuit course is not for the faint-hearted.  The track has been designed to technically challenge drivers over 61 anti-clockwise laps.  A major development objective of the evening race is providing consistent lighting around the track for the safety of drivers and public, as well as for providing a optimal visibility for the 96,000 spectators of the event.
